Jupiter, Fla.-- Post Thanksgiving and Black Friday; fans, friends and family made their way to Palm Beach International Raceway over the weekend, as PBIR hosted one of it's largest drag events of the year, Citrus Nationals on November 29th and 30th. Combined with the Ford Power Festival (which early in the year was postponed due to construction) and set at the NHRA-sanctioned, all-concrete 1/4-mile drag strip with all-new grandstand seating and concessions, spectators were treated to everything a race fan could ask for: Quick-16, Top AlcoholÂ
Dragster, Supercomp, Super Gas, Stock, Super Stock, Jet-Powered Trucks, Jet-Powered Funny Cars, Mustang Challenge and more.Â
With most categories reaching the semifinals, track officials ended competition when rain caused multiple delays and ultimately suspended final heats before splitting the prize money among the remaining drivers. Among those winning their categories were: Bill Evans, winner of the Top Alcohol Dragster category and Paul Schultz, who not only won the Quick-16 category but also claimed the Quick-16 season title with a narrow defeat over runner-up John Weiner. Electrifying the crowd was Danny O'Day, who drove his Super Winch sponsored 1934 Ford roaster to a new elapsed time of 8.643, 155.15 on two wheels.
Though rain cut the event short it couldn't stop fans and racers from enjoying hours of racing action and great food at the world-class Palm Beach International Raceway.
Citrus Nationals was the first event held at PBIR this season which brought in NHRA Southeastern division drivers and professionals. It is the first of many larger events that will be coming to PBIR as we head into the new year. |
