Brown to pilot Monster Jam’s biggest star at Palm Beach Thunder Jam
Wednesday, 29 September 2010 14:09

thunderjam_142x117When asked what children want to be when they grow up, most will respond with a typical answer such as a firefighter, doctor or astronaut.

But when Camden, N.C. native Randy Brown was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he only had one answer in mind and he wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of his dream.

Brown wanted to be a monster truck driver.

Now, 38-year-old Brown is living his dream as one of the lead drivers with the Grave Digger fleet on the Monster Jam tour and, to put it mildly, Brown is loving every minute of it. And while Brown is used to high-flying antics and car-crushing runs, he will be trading in his massive dirt tires for a set of slicks as he brings the world famous Grave Digger to Palm Beach International Raceway for a night of high-speed acceleration action at the Palm Beach Thunder Jam October 9 in Florida.

“We are thrilled to have Randy Brown and the Grave Digger team be a part of this spectacular event. We have had some great Thunder Jam events so far this year, but this one will certainly be special with the world’s most recognizable race machine competing in front of the thousands of West Palm Beach fans,” said Jim Marchyshyn, Thunder Jam Operations Manager. “I can’t wait to get this event started.”

In addition to Grave Digger, the Palm Beach Thunder Jam will also feature an assortment of incredible thrill acts including the side-by-side showdown between the “Cannonball Express” and “Chattanooga Choo-Choo” jet dragsters, the “Cool Bus” wheelstanding school bus, Benny the Bomb and his explosive escape act and some of the fastest Pro Modified and True Stock 10.5 cars in the country.

And all of this is available for the lowest ticket prices in town. For this special one-night-only show adult tickets are just $20 and kid’s tickets are free with a special coupon courtesy of Taco Bell. Fans can get their free kids coupon by visiting participating south Florida Taco Bell locations or by logging on to www.thunderjam.com.

“In today’s economy value is a hard thing to find and we want to make sure our fans get the most bang for their buck,” Marchyshyn said. “We want to give our fans the best show possible at a price that can’t be found anywhere else. Plus parking and admission to the ThunderFest Pit Party is totally free making for an unmatched value in motorsports.”

And any show that features Grave Digger is always worth the price of admission.

By far the biggest star in the highly popular Monster Jam series, and perhaps one of the most recognizable names in all of racing, Grave Digger has racked up numerous awards and has achieved near rock star status.

The 1950 style Chevrolet truck has become an icon of the sport with its ghoulish green and black paint job and menacing red headlights and has made a name for itself with its go-or-go-home style of racing. The truck itself has garnered four Monster Jam Points Championships, one Freestyle Championship and two Monster Jam World Racing Championships while under the direction of a handful of drivers.

In Florida, Grave Digger will be under the care of legendary driver and former champion Brown. Brown began his racing career tractor pulling, winning multiple championships before finally getting into the monster truck business in 2000. Brown drove “Pure Adrenaline” for three years before getting the call in 2002 to join the Grave Digger fleet. Since then Brown has been living his dream driving one of the top race machines in the game.

Now Brown will take Grave Digger out of the arena and onto the track for three runs culminating with an incredible showdown between Grave Digger and a local race car.

Grave Digger weighs nearly 12,000 pounds and produces over 2,000 horsepower from its 575 cubic inch Chevy Big Block engine. The monster stands at nearly 11 feet tall with its 66 inch tall, 43 inch wide tires and has the ability to jump long distances thanks to its custom built design which gives it the ability to produce quick bursts of speed – making it perfect for the sport of drag racing.

And Grave Digger will need every bit of that acceleration as it takes some of the fastest cars on the property at the PBIR strip.

And all of this can be seen on Saturday, October 9 at Palm Beach International Raceway beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the ThunderFest pit party and culminating with the Palm Beach Thunder Jam starting at 7 p.m.
