Palm Beach International Raceway has been the spotlight in the drag racing community for more than a week as numerous professional drag racing teams took to the track for pre-season testing.
The teams participated in a private week-long test session prior to Friday and Saturday evening, when the public poured into PBIR to see what all of the buzz was about. They weren’t disappointed as they witnessed side-by-side runs with drivers Ron Capps, John Force, Tony Schumacher, Antron Brown and others. More than 15 teams participated in the action.
Tony Schumacher led the Top Fuel field in the first Saturday night session. Schumacher drove his U.S. Army dragster to a 3.778 ET (elapsed time) at 321.19 mph. But it was Antron Brown who took the top spot in the final session, running 3.775 ET at 324.05 mph.
The Funny Cars heated things up with numerous runs in the 4.0’s. It was the 15-time champion John Force posted a 4.037 ET at 313.80 mph to end the night on a high note. Not only did the session provide fans a little pre-season fun, it also helped the drivers shake off the nerves before the season opener later this month.
“I love this PRO Winter Warm-Up. I can’t thank them enough for setting this up,” said Funny Car driver Robert Hight. “As much as getting the cars set up to run is important it is also important to get those competitive juices flowing before Pomona. The best way to do that is to race beside someone. I want to win every round no matter if it is testing, qualifying or eliminations.” |
