Update - COMPLETE! The first 24 Hours of Lemons at Palm Beach International Raceway was a huge success. Team BoomPowSurprise conquered the PBIR road course over the 24 time frame completing 754 laps in their 1994 Ford Probe GT.
Update 8:00 p.m. With only four hours left to go BoomPowSurprise, featured on CBS 12 News this morning, is still leading the 24 Hours of Lemons at PBIR over Clueless Racing by 15 laps. Four hours is a lot of time left, one mistake could put Clueless Racing ahead of BoomPowSurprise.
Update - 5:00 p.m. We still have quite a few cars making their way around the two-mile road course. However many of them have had mechanical issues and the crews have worked hard all day repairing the cars. Thanks to a few local auto parts stores, many of the cars that were out overnight have returned to competition. BoomPowSurprise is still leading the field with over 500 laps around PBIR. Clueless Racing isn't far behind.
Update - 6:00 a.m. BoomPowSurprise is leading the 24 Hours of Lemons at Palm Beach International Raceway. The team is experienced, with one Lemons win earned already in the series. Some teams have broken down overnight and are currently waiting for local auto parts stores to open.
Once those stores open, teams will get the parts they need to fix the cars and hope to make it to the finish at midnight tonight. We've also seen plenty of penalties overnight. Instead of typical penalties, the Lemons crew has embarrassing penalties like being taped to the top of the car and pushed around the pits for all to see.
Update - 4:00 a.m. Be sure to tune in to CBS 12's "Good Morning South Florida" as Gary Widom will be reporting live from Palm Beach International Raceway. The 24 hour race is in full swing. Cars are successfully completing driver changes along with stops for fuel and maintenance.
Update - 1:00 a.m. The 24 Hours of LeMons series has officially thrown the green flag at Palm Beach International Raceway. More than 80 cars began twisting and turning their way around the two-mile road course. As expected, there were a few "lemons" cars that had issues at the start of the event.
